The Trip, in our own words.

This is the Khumbu taken in full: Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar on the eastern side, the turquoise Gokyo Lakes on the western, and three high passes joining them in one continuous circuit. It suits fit walkers who want the region’s great viewpoints without retracing a single trail, and who are comfortable with long days at altitude. Rest days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, and shorter days before the passes, give the route a considered rhythm, while Sherpa villages, Tengboche Monastery and Thame add cultural depth. On the trail, simple teahouses carry you from valley to valley, with shared bathrooms and few facilities at height

Highlights

  • Kongma La, Cho La and Renjo La are crossed in turn on a single circuit of the Khumbu, each on its own day.
  • Everest Base Camp is reached on Day 10, then Kala Patthar early the next morning, both from the teahouse at Gorak Shep.
  • Two nights at Gokyo include the climb of Gokyo Ri, with the Ngozumpa Glacier below and Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu beyond.
  • A night at Tengboche, the spiritual heart of the Khumbu, set among Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Everest.
  • Namche Bazaar’s Sherpa Museum, markets and bakeries, plus a steep acclimatisation hike towards Nangkartsang Peak above Dingboche.

N° 01

Health & altitude

This is a strenuous trek with three passes above 5,000 m, plus Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Acclimatisation days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche and a steady pace are built into the route, and your guide checks in on how you are feeling every day.

N° 02

Weather & seasons

Spring and autumn are the recommended seasons. Spring brings flowering rhododendrons below 4,000 m, while autumn is the most popular season, with crisp, dry days. Temperatures fall below freezing at height, and mountain weather can affect flights and pass crossings.

N° 03

Where you sleep & eat

In Kathmandu you stay at Hotel Dwarika’s or Hyatt Regency. On the trail you sleep in simple teahouses with twin-sharing beds and shared bathrooms, and facilities thin out with height. Meals on the trek are included, and the food is hearty and basic.

N° 04

Guides, porters & packing

You trek with 1 guide for every 7 guests and 1 porter for every 2 guests, and salary and insurance are provided for all crew members. Pack for varied conditions, including a sleeping bag for the colder, higher lodges.

N° 05

Flights & transfers

Direct flights between Kathmandu and Lukla begin and end the trek, and private airport transfers are included in Kathmandu. Flights depend on weather, so your guide may adjust the schedule.

N° 06

Permits, visa & insurance

Two permits are required, the Sagarmatha National Park permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit (Trek Card), and we arrange them. Your Nepal visa and personal insurance are yours to arrange

N° 07

Culture & customs

The route passes Sherpa villages, gompas, chortens and monasteries, including Tengboche and Thame, and the Sherpa Museum in Namche Bazaar. Respecting sacred sites deepens the experience.
