After spending an extra day in Sama-Gaon for acclimatization and a short hike to scenic viewpoints. The adventure continues to the end of the Manaslu Valley rim at Dharmasala or Larke Phedi. Which is also the base camp for the climb to stunning Larke Peak towers high at 6,249m/20,621 feet.
Larke Peak seldom ventured for adventurous climbing due to its technical difficulty in reaching the summit. But having flexible days with good climbing gear makes the climb much more accessible to enjoy the adventure. The grade of the climb ‘TD’, means high with “Technical Difficulties”. The grading from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems leads to rock and ice vertical faces.
Where fixed ropes are necessary from the start of the climb to the summit as well as on descent. The Larke Peak summit rewards a mind-blowing panorama of the surroundings towering snow mountain range. Includes the Manaslu range of peaks, with Annapurna II and III, IV. The best seasons for Larke Peak Climbing & Manaslu Circuit Treks, are spring and autumn. Spring starts from March to May, most days are sunny but can get cloudy in the late afternoon. Chances of light snowfall with cold mornings and nighttime at above 2,000 m. Lovely times with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various colors, en route Manaslu Valley.
The next best season is autumn/fall, which begins in September and ends in November. One of the high seasons for views and pleasant walks, sunny days most of the time in autumn. But gets dark soon, due to short sunlight hours, cold morning, and late afternoon till nighttime. Could get snowfall from Namrung, Sama-Gaon to high Larke-La Pass sometimes.
The route is straightforward with a signpost at each junction of the mid-ways, so there will be no confusion. The trails are nicely laid and good for walking all the way to Upper Manaslu. Includes steep uphill for short hour, and with gradual winding path through lovely forest. Crossing over exciting bridges and with long downhill, after reaching the highest overnight stops at Dharmasala.
The trail after Lo Gaon and Sama-Gaon to Dharmasala and on top Larke-La Pass with steep climb and touch of high altitude. But, rest of the walks is on downhill to Dharapani Village at the end of trekking. Dharmasala and Larke Phedi is also the base camp of Larke Peak, located on a glaciated valley. The climb to Larke Peak High Camp is within rocky moraine of ice, snow and glaciers.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: In Kathmandu with optional sightseeing tour and trek preparations.
Day 03: Drive to Machha Khola 900 m / 2,952 feet approx. 07 hours.
Day 04: Trek to Jagat 1,340 m via Dovan 1,070 m-07 hours.
Day 05: Trek to Deng 1,860 m via Philim village-06 hours.
Day 06: Trek to Namrung 2, 660 m-06 hours.
Day 07: Trek to Lo-Gaon 3, 180 m-05 hours.
Day 08: Trek to Sama-Gaon 3, 500 m /11, 480 feet-06 hours.
Day 09: At Sama-Gaon rest day for acclimatization and excursion.
Day 10: Trek to Samdo 3,875 m -05 hours.
Day 11: Trek to Dharmasala 4, 450 m /14, 596 feet-04 hours.
Day 12: At Dharmasala also a Larke Peak Base Camp.
Day 13: Trek and climb to High Camp at 5,050 m-04 hrs.
Day 14-15: For Larke Peak Summit Climbing 6,249m/20, 621 feet. Return to Dharmasala the base camp.
Day 16: Extra day at base camp to collect climbing and camping equipment.
Day 17: Trek to Bhimphedi/Bhimthang 3,590 m -08 hours. Crossing over Larke-La Pass 5,106m.
Day 18: Trek to Gho 2,535 m- 04 hrs.
Day 19: Trek to Dharapani village 1,820 m, drive to Bhesishar 800m-06 hrs.
Day 20: Drive to Kathmandu-05 hours.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared during the trek. The meals are basic, but will give you enough energy for your appetite. Fruit is also available after each meal.
During the trek, we stay in lodges or teahouses. These are simple in nature, but fully equipped. Do not expect too much luxury.
A moderate walk with some steep ups to reach high Manaslu Valley. On reaching Lo-Gaon the walk is pleasant on gradual trail to Sama-Gaon, as well heading towards Dharmasala at the end of the valley rim. The hardest one can experience is the long climb on top Larke-La pass. Then with long stretch of downhill after the pass to reach Bhimthang or Bhimphedi. Rest of the walk on downhill to the end of the trek at Dharapani Village. As for the climb of Larke Peak, all trekkers should be physically fit in sound health. Larke Peak climb leads to much technical skills, best if members have experience with basic knowledge of mountaineering.
Larke Peak due to remote and isolated location is not much popular than other trekking peaks in Nepal. But every good seasons of year, few groups of climbers often dare for the challenging climb to Larke Peak.

All lodges on overnight stops, have electricity facilities either run by Hydro or solar power. Trekkers can charge their electronic items on paying extra for charging each gadgets. Some lodges offer free Wi-Fi and Internet services while few places might charge extra. But the connection in some places can be disturbing and takes time to run the service either in long distance call or using the internets.
Simply the best that one can expect around the mountainous and hilly region around Himalayas. The lodge facilities much better from Jagat to Samdo villages, and most lodges provide common bathe and toilets. An extra charge for using hot showers, the rooms are neat and cozy with large dining. Have fireplace to warm the rooms while you enjoy the meals. The foods depending upon the standard of the lodge, but most lodge restaurants provide long list of food menu. From Set menu or La Carte, including all types of refreshments to enjoy, as well some lodge provides fresh bakery products also. At Dharmasala the lodge is simple and basic with limited food menu, due to its remoteness and harsh climate condition.
