Lobuche East Peak Climbing is an exciting adventures on least summited peaks around the high Khumbu Valley. However, at present from last few decades the Lobuche East Peak is getting popular among enthusiastic mountaineers and climbers. As a best way for practice climbing before planning major expeditions to higher peaks like Everest or similar heights mountains.

Lobuche East Peak, located west of Mt. Everest at a mere distance of 13 km/8.5 miles. The Lobuche with twin peaks west and the east, where Lobuche East Peak is more popular than the west. Due to its proximity and accessibility from the Lobuche settlement and Everest main trekking trail.

Lobuche East Peak towers high at 6,119 m/20,070 feet above the scenic Khumbu Valley. From the summit climbers can catch breathtaking panorama of surrounding near peaks with views of Mt. Everest.

The Best Seasons

The best seasons for Lobuche East Peak Climb, are spring and autumn. Spring starts from March to May, most days are sunny but can get cloudy in the late afternoon. Chances of light snowfall with cold mornings and nighttime sometimes. But beautiful with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially rhododendrons of various colors, around Hinku Valley.

The next best season is autumn/fall, which begins in September and ends in November. One of the high seasons for views and pleasant walks, sunny days most of the time in autumn. But gets dark soon, due to short sunlight hours, cold morning, and late afternoon till nighttime. Could get snowfall around Lobuche East climbing.

The route and trails to Lobuche East Peak base camp

The route is straightforward with a signpost at each junction of the mid-ways, so there will be no confusion. The trails are nicely laid and good for walking until Lobuche, from Lobuche to Gorakshep and Everest base camp.
Can slightly changes of walking path, due to seasonal avalanches and rock falls, but nothing dangerous taking slow. Especially on rocky trails of big boulders with moraine of rocks, ice and glaciers, on crossing passes.

Including en route to Everest Base Camp. Few short uphill’s and downhill, but on leaving Dudh Koshi River, steep uphill on a winding trail to Namche Bazaar. As well as crossing suspension bridges over the same rivers a couple of times. From Namche Bazaar to Dingboche on gradual good path to follow. From Lobuche to Lobuche East Peak Base Camp is on rocky moraine, over dunes and glaciated path with rise in altitude. Situated in a hidden corner away from the major trekking route of Everest Base Camp.

Itinerary

Day 01

Fly to Lukla 2, 846 m and trek to Phakding 2,645 m - 04 hrs.

Morning as time for flight to Lukla, transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport. After checking in and through security, then board in a small aircraft for sweeping scenic flight to Lukla. During air-borne spectacular views of Himalayan range of peaks with Mt. Everest and Nepal’s beautiful country landscapes. After a short flight of 30 to 35 minutes landing at Lukla’s Tenzing & Hillary Airport, after claiming the baggage. Follow the guide to start the trek through Lukla town past shops, stores and restaurants. On the downhill to Dudh Koshi River past several villages to reach overnight stop in Phakding village.
Day 02

Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m / 11, 350 feet - 06 hrs.

From Phakding a long day walk to Namche Bazaar, due to rapid rise in altitude. Morning walk follows above the Dudh Koshi River and crossing bridge with up to Monjo village. To enter Sagarmatha National Park, listed in World Heritage Sites, Sagarmatha a name for Everest in Nepal. For the Sherpa is Chomolungma similar to Tibetan name and language. From here cross the bridge to Jorsalle for lunch stop. After lunch walk on the river bed within forest of rhododendrons and pine trees and cross a high bridge. From here on undulating winding uphill to reach Namche Bazaar for two overnights stop. Namche Bazaar a size of a town with colorful nice houses offers many good lodge accommodation and best food.
Day 03

At Namche for acclimatization and short scenic hike.

A perfect place and height for rest and acclimatization day, before heading higher altitude. At Namche enjoy a short hike and exercise for acclimatization, the best is to high above Namche Bazaar. Where national park headquarters located with an interesting museum, offers grand views of Mt. Everest. Includes Lhotse, Nuptse and beautiful peak of Ama Dablam, Tharmasarku and Kwangde peaks. Options for hike to Everest View Hotel, first luxury hotel in Khumbu as well listed in Guinness Book of Record. As the world’s highest luxury hotel at 3,800 m high. Rest of the day after lunch explore the town of Namche Bazaar.
Day 04

Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m - 05 hrs.

Enjoy the day walk from Namche Bazaar on scenic winding pleasant trail with glorious views of Everest. As well other adjoining snow peaks the down to Imjatse River at Phunki Tenga for lunch stop. Afternoon a steep climbs up through lovely forest to Tengboche and its colorful monastery of great religious interest. After a good climb of few hours reach on top of a small plateau at scenic location at Tengboche. Where you can enjoy the panorama of Mt. Everest and series of peaks that surrounds Tengboche. Located amidst lovely forest surroundings, overnights in its nice simple lodge. Options to walk further down to Deboche another small settlement with few nice lodges.
Day 05

Trek to Dingboche 4,410 m - 05 hrs.

Enjoy the morning superb views of snow peaks, and then downhill to cross a bridge. From the bridge onwards the tree lines drop for short bush of junipers then reaching Pangboche. The last permanent village before Everest base camp, walk heads with slow up to Somare for lunch stop. Afternoon can get quite windy and cold as the height gains to reach Dingboche for two overnights stops.
Day 06

Rest day in Dingboche for acclimatization and short excursion.

Dingboche a nice settlement with many fine lodges, situated within scenic Imjatse Valley. Stands below North Face of Ama Dablam and south of Lhotse and Nuptse Mountains with views of Island Peak. At Dingboche options for hike on top Nakarjung hill for best panorama of surrounding scenery of snow peaks. Includes views of Mt. Makalu towards east, a good acclimatization hike, afternoon at leisure.
Day 07

Trek to Lobuche 4,960 m-05 hrs.

Enjoying a pleasant rest in Dingboche, morning walk leads to short climb on a scenic ridge top. Festooned with prayer flags and Buddhist monuments of Stupa, and then on nice slow uphill to reach Thugla. A small place with few smaller Tea-Houses, where trail of Dingboche and Pheriche joins towards Everest Base Camp. Enjoy a refreshing lunch stop with views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse and Taboche peaks. Afternoon walk with climb for short hour to Thugla Ridge Top, and then an easy walk. But the gain in altitude makes the difference, making the trek slower within dry air. After a few hours of good walks reaching Lobuche for overnight stop, in the comfort of a nice good lodge.
Day 08

Trek to Everest base camp 5,364 m via Gorakshep 5,180 m and walk back to Gorakshep.

Getting up early for the adventure to Everest Base Camp, after breakfast start the walk on a pleasant wide path. A short climb to reach rocky moraine path above Khumbu massif glaciers. As walk continues with short ups and down to Gorakshep a small settlement with few good lodges. Enjoy a refreshing break beneath the towering peaks of Pumori and Kalapathar Rocky ridge. From Gorakshep walk leads east on a winding rough path between boulders of rocks to reach the famous Everest Base Camp. Enclosed behind by giant Nuptse, Lhotse peaks amidst glaciated field of ice, snow and glaciers with Khumbu Ice-Fall. The views of Mt. Everest is not clear from the base camp hidden by adjoining peaks. But an exciting dramatic place to experience, after a great wonderful moment walk back to Gorakshep for overnight.
Day 09

Climb Kalapathar 5,643 m/18,514 feet, trek to Lobuche East Peak Base Camp 4,865 m-05 hrs.

Another early morning start to reach on top of Kalapathar, the highest point of the treks. Leads to good acclimatization, a climb of few hours with steep ups to reach the black rocky ridge. Hence it named ‘Kalapathar’ for black rock, nevertheless, it is a popular viewpoint for closest look of majestic Mt. Everest. After a great scenic moments surrounded by towering snow mountains, head back to Gorakshep for breakfast. Leaving Gorakshep down to Lobuche and then heading further, as our walk diverts from the main trail. Reaching around the hidden corner to set our base camp for Lobuche East Climb. Setting tents for few overnights, as well as having separate kitchen department of Cook and kitchen staff. Rest of the day at leisure checking the route of climb with practice climbing exercise.
Day 10

Free Day for climbing preparation and practice exercise.

At Lobuche East base camp, having a day for climbing preparations and checking the equipment. As well as with climbing exercise, and getting instructions and advice from the expert guide. Rest of the day at leisure saving energy for the big climb to the summit of Lobuche East Peak.
Day 11

Climb to High Camp 5,600 m /18,368 feet-04 hrs.

Morning packing the necessary gear for the climb, after a good camping breakfast start the walk and climb. The route to High Camp follows on rough rocky areas with moraine of ice and snow. After few hours of steady walk and climb, reaching right beneath the towering Lobuche East Peak. Finding a suitable level ground to set the tents, having lunch on the highest spot of the adventure. Rest of the afternoon practice using climbing tools, ice-axe, crampons and the guide will offer technical know-how.
Day 12

Climb to Lobuche East Peak 6,119 m / 20,070 feet-07 hrs.

A final goal of the adventures, rising before break of dawn when the cold breeze is quiet. Start the climb following the expert guide over rocks, ice and snow as well having support of fixed ropes. On reaching technical sections, after an arduous steep haul to the summit of Lobuche East Peak. On reaching the top enjoy the overwhelming panorama of towering snow mountains, encircles the Lobuche East Peak summit. After a great adrenaline climb descent to base camp for warm refreshment and hot meals.
Day 13

Trek to Pangboche 3,900m-06 hrs.

After a successful and safe climb, clearing the camp and carrying the rubbish, leaving nothing but footprints. Walk towards Chukung for short rest, from here a pleasant walk to Dingboche for lunch. Afternoon downhill to Pangboche village for overnight in the comfort of a nice cozy lodge.
Day 14

Trek to Namche Bazaar via Tengboche Monastery- 07 hrs.

A long day hike but more or less downhill with few ups to Tengboche. Tengboche, a scenic spot with an impressive monastery, having time for short tour of the monastery interior. As well enjoy the panorama of snow peas with views of Mt. Everest amidst a lovely forest surrounding. Then walk downhill to Phunki Tenga to cross a small bridge with short steep climb to Lobesa and Shanasha villages. Then rest of the walk is on gradual winding path with down to Namche Bazaar for overnight stop.
Day 15

Trek to Lukla 2, 846 m-07 hours.

Enjoy the last day walk of the adventures, a long descent to Dudh Koshi River. The walk follows to a short climb at the entrance and exit post of national park at Monjo village. From here onward on gradual path to Phakding for lunch, afternoon a pleasant walk with last climb to Lukla. On reaching Lukla check into a nice lodge for final overnight around Khumbu and Everest region.
Day 16

Fly from Luka to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

As time for flight to Kathmandu, getting ready by 6 a.m. transfer to Lukla air Terminal. Waiting for the plane to arrive from Kathmandu, and then get on board in the small aircraft for scenic flight. On reaching Kathmandu airport transfer for a short drive back to your hotel, rest of the day at leisure.

How long it takes to climb Lobuche East Peak?

Depending on the itinerary of the trek and climb, normally it takes more than a week straight for the climb. Without visiting the Everest base camp, but including trek to Everest base camp takes more than two weeks.

How difficult is climb to Lobuche East Peak?

The grade for Lobuche East Peak climbing is TD means Technical Difficult. As per French/Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification Systems. A straight forward climb with few tough technical difficulties to encounter before reaching the summit. All climbers requires adequate climbing gear for the safe climb and descend.

What kind of physical challenge required for Lobuche East Peak Climb?

Normally an average person in good physical shape and in sound health can join in for the climb. Climbers of previous experience will be an advantage, for beginners we will have extra days for practice climb. Our guide will teach and supports you reach the summit, and back safely to base camp.

What insurance do we need to get?

Medical and Travel Insurance, should cover any means of fastest transportation like using Helicopter service. Travel insurance should cover in case of flight delay and cancellation due to bad weather condition.

Do I need evacuation insurance?

Certainly yes, as mentioned above for immediate evacuation in case of emergency situation if arise. The evacuation insurance usually applies for using helicopter service and medical treatments in Kathmandu or near about.

In emergency whom, do I contact, my friend or relative?

Can easily contact with your close one, relatives or friends where you can buy local cell phone re-charge card in Kathmandu. It works all around the country, or use your guide phone or from the nearest lodge, where STD / ISTD or SAT Phone is available. One can contact through the company that you booked with in case of emergency situation.

Will there be any electric power to charge our gadgets?

Facilities for charging batteries and electronic gadgets, available throughout the trek staying in a lodge, either by main hydroelectricity or solar power, where you need to pay as per hour and per gadgets. The last place on this trip is Lobuche,a small settlement with lodge having solar power. At the base camp for few days without any electricity power. The best is carrying a portable solar panel as the sun is bright around highest altitude for you to charge your gadgets.

How many guides will accompany the climbers?

Depending on the size of a group, for less than four people, one climbing guide as well with second guide to take care of the client requirement. For more than 6 to 10 people, with 2-3 climbing guides, with great experience. Who have summited other higher major mountain also.
