Overview

Langtang Valley Trekking is located around Nepal Central Himalayas Nepal, and the closest mountain range from the capital Kathmandu. Within the Rasuwa district, north of Kathmandu Valley and Langtang National Park. The first Himalayan national park of Nepal was established in 1976, enriched with exotic flora and fauna. The trek to Langtang Valley leads through a beautiful forest of rhododendrons, magnolia, oaks, and pine with fir trees.

As well as bamboo stalks, which make a perfect habitat for various wildlife species. Like the rare, elusive, and endangered Red Panda, often sighted on walks to Langtang Valley. Langtang Valley Trekking is also a popular and most favored Himalayan destination, suitable for all types of people and age groups.

The altitude gains slowly, at easy paces as you trek towards the main highlight at Kyanjin Gompa. Kyanjin Gompa is the last human settlement around picturesque Langtang Valley, as well as the highest point for overnight stays.

Langtang Valley trekking is of moderate grade adventures, with some steep uphill climbs at the beginning of the treks. The Langtang Valley offers serial exciting viewpoints to enjoy the fabulous panoramic scenery of the whole Langtang Himal range. This journey includes rest days at the beautiful spot of Kyanjin Gompa, where trekkers can explore and hike.

To experience extra height, climb on top of Kyanjin-Ri or Tserko-Ri Viewpoint Hills. The whole trek of a week time frames, during the walks enjoy following the lovely forested trails. Exploring the lovely traditional villages of the Tamang the main ethnic tribes of Rasuwa and Langtang Himal.

They are interwoven with Buddhist religion and cultural heritage similar to their early Tibetan predecessors. On reaching scenic Langtang Valley at Kyanjin Gompa, staying in the comfort of a cozy lodge. With nice rooms facing grand views of the snow-capped peak, that surrounds the beautiful Langtang Valley.

After an enjoyable time at Kyanjin Gompa and Langtang Valley, the trek leads downhill back to Syabrubesi. To complete the walks, and then drive to Kathmandu, concluding the marvelous experience on Langtang Valley Trekking.

The Best Seasons to Trek Langtang Valley

The best seasons for Langtang Valley Treks, are spring and autumn. Spring starts from March to May, most days are sunny but can get cloudy in the late afternoon. Chances of light snowfall with cold mornings and nighttime at above 3,000 m.

Lovely times with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons of various colors, en route Langtang Valley.  The next best season is autumn/fall, which begins in September and ends in November. One of the high seasons for views and pleasant walks, sunny days mostly in autumn.

But gets dark soon, due to short sunlight hours, cold morning, and late afternoon till nighttime. Could get snowfall from Langtang Village and at Kyanjin Gompa sometimes.

The route and trails to Langtang Valley Trek

The route is straightforward with a signpost at each junction of the mid-ways, so there will be no confusion. The trails are nicely laid and good for walking to Kyanjin Gompa. Includes steep uphill for short hours, and with a gradual winding path through lovely forest. Crossing over exciting bridges and with long downhill, after reaching the highest overnight stops at Kyanjin Gompa.

Itinerary

Day 01

Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche Town 1,900 - 06 hours.

Enjoy an exciting drive to start the trek from the town-village of Syabrubesi, an Interesting overland journey. Heading through nice farm areas, villages and towns reaching higher cooler hills at Dhunche Town. The headquarters of Rasuwa district around Langtang Himal region. As well as the entrance of Langtang National Park, from here downhill to Syabrubesi at the end of motorable road. Check into a nice lodge for first overnight around Langtang Himal region.
Day 02

Trek to Lama Hotel 2,455 m-06 hrs.

From Syabrubesi our first day of trekking begins, enjoying breakfast, and then on the trail towards Langtang Valley. The walk leads to cross a bridge with uphill climb past farm villages to reach a small place at Riverside. For possible lunch stop and then on gradual ups through cool forest to reach Lama Hotel for overnight halt. Located amidst dense woodland of rhododendrons and pine trees by the Langtang Khola/ stream.
Day 03

Trek to Langtang Village 3,425 m or Mundu 3,450 m-06 hrs.

After a pleasant overnight at Lama Hotel nice and simple lodge, walk starts heading uphill path. A lovely walk into deep forest, after hours of good trek reaching a small place of Ghode Tabela for lunch. Enjoying refreshing stops the walk through lovely tree lines reaching a wide open area. Where Langtang Villages situated, on arrival check into a nice simple lodge and explore the villages of Langtang and Mundu. This areas was badly damaged from the 2015 big earthquakes, slowly life is returning back to normal.
Day 04

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,870 m-04 hrs.

An enjoyable and short day morning hike, from Langtang Village walk past Mundu village. Then a short steep climb reaching an open areas as the walks enters scenic Langtang Valley. A nice pleasant walk brings you at Kyanjin Gompa for two overnights, in the comfort of a nice lodge. At Kyanjin for lunch and overnight stops, afternoon enjoy walking around the lovely settlement of Kyanjin Gompa. Located in the heart of picturesque valley of Langtang Himal.
Day 05

Rest day for leisure scenic hike to viewpoints.

A perfect and great scenic location for rest day, enjoy a morning hike to its Viewpoints of Kyanjin-Ri and Tserko-Ri. Offers grand vista of surrounding arrays of giant peaks views of Langtang Himal range with Langtang Lirung and Langtang-Ri. Includes views as far as Jugal Himal, Yala Peak and Dorje Lakpa with some mountains across the border in Tibet.
Day 06

Trek to Lama Hotel-06 hrs.

After a marvelous time of great experience at Kyanjin Gompa within scenic Langtang Valley. Today a long walks down to Lama Hotel, having good breakfast at Kyanjin, retrace the journey back to Lama Hotel. Following the same scenic route to reach Lama Hotel for overnight stop before Syabrubesi.
Day 07

Trek to Syabrubesi on the road-head- 05 hrs.

Morning from Lama Hotel walk downhill on winding path to Riverside, and then towards farm areas. On leaving the dense forest and descend to reach a bridge to cross with pleasant short walk to Syabrubesi. For last overnight stop around Rasuwa and Langtang Himal region.

How difficult is Langtang Valley Trek?

A moderate walk with some steep ups to reach Langtang Village, and then on pleasant gradual trail to Langtang Valley. The steep climb as options to viewpoints

of Kyanjin-Ri or Tserko-Ri. Rest of the walk after Langtang Valley is mostly downhill all the way to the end at Syabrubesi town-village.

All lodges on overnight stops, have electricity facilities either run by Hydro or solar power. Trekkers can charge their electronic items on paying extra for charging each gadgets. Some lodges offer free Wi-Fi and Internet services while few places might charge extra. But the connection in some places can be disturbing and takes time to run the service either in long distance call or using the internets.

How are the lodge facilities and foods on this treks?

Simply the best that one can expect around the mountainous and hilly region around Himalayas. The lodge facilities much better at Syabrubesi and Kyanjin Gompa. Most lodges provide common bathe and toilets with extra charge for using hot showers. However, the rooms are neat and cozy the dining have fireplace to warm the rooms while you enjoy the meals. The foods depending upon the standard of the lodge, but most lodge restaurants provide long list of food menu. From Set menu or La Carte, including all types of refreshments to enjoy, as well some lodge provides fresh bakery products also.

How fit one should be for this adventure?

Requires all trekkers to be suitably physically fit and in good health, to take the challenge walking steeps and downhill’s. When planning and booking this trip, one should need outdoor exercise from walking, jogging. Or any other good physical exercise for an hour on daily basis, and checking your health.
